Posted 05/08/2008 05:45:30 PM | | Hello,
I am researching Louis/Lewis/Ludwig Knab. He was born in Rittershoffen, Alsace, Bas-Rhin, France on 27 Mar 1841. According to the Fort Recovery Trinity Lutheran Church records, he immigrated to the US in 1872. (I have never seen any indication that he immigrated with any other family members.) He married Maria/Mary Yaeger/Jaeger on 9 Apr 1878 at Trinity. By 1880 they had moved to Jay County, Indiana. He died on 6 Aug 1892 when his horses ran away with the wagon and threw him out; he was buried in West Mound Cemetery in Fort Recovery. I have been there and photographed the stone. Now for the questions---
1) Is there a record of his immigration and/or naturalization?
2) Who were his parents? Is it possible that they were Jean Georges Knab and Carolina Goetzmann?
3) Is he possibly a nephew of Maria Eva Knab Jaeger, wife of Laurent Jaeger, who immigrated to Marion County, Ohio, in 1830?
4) Was there an obituary in the local newspaper?
5) Is there a death certificate for him in Mercer County. I have already been to Jay County and they have no DC for him. Since he died near the Ohio line and was buried in Ohio, the folks in Jay County said it is possible that the coroner may have been a doctor from Ohio and that the DC was filed in Ohio.
Thank you so much for any help you can give me.
