Posted 05/10/2007 03:59:35 PM | | I am seeking information on the Edward Kelly family living in Neptune in the second half of the 1800's.
Edward Kelly, Sr.
b. 1820 in NJ
m. Elizabeth Poling, May 1854 in Mercer County, Ohio
children: William, Anna, Emma, Amos (Ami)
m. Catherine Polan Sheets (former husband Phillip Sheets)
Edward apparently died in 1890.
William Kelly, s/o Edward, Sr. and Elizabeth
b. 1856
m. Mary Jane (Sheets, Fast, Cook)
children: Elizabeth, Rushus Edward (went by Edward R.)
William apparently died fairly young, close to the time of his father Edward's death in 1890.
These are the basics of this family that I know now. I do know that Catherine and her first husband Phillip were from Fairfield County, Berne Twp, Ohio and came to Mercer County with their children post 1860 and pre 1870. The Sheets children are listed in the 1860 and 1870 census records (first one in Fairfield County and second one in Mercer). There are stories in the family that Edward's first wife Elizabeth, and second wife Catherine were sisters. I have nothing to confirm that except for the nearness of the surnames (Poling and Polan).
Catherine's daughter Mary Jane (born in 1848 in Fairfield County and died in Allen County--not to be confused with the other Mary Jane Fast's in Mercer County) married a Fast, but his name is unknown. There apparently were no children of this marriage. Later she married Benjamin Cook. They had a son William Benjamin, who died at age 2 1/2 and is buried in Neptune cemetary. Benjamin Cook also must have died because in 1870, Mary Jane, who returned to the Fast surname, married William Kelly, 8 years her junior, son of Edward Kelly. They had two children, Elizabeth, born in 1881 and Rushus Edward, born in 1882. Sometime after William died, Mary Jane moved to Southworth, a small burg between Delphos and Spencerville, Ohio in Allen County with her two children.
The later census records state that Edward's father was born in Ireland, and his mother was born in NJ, as was Edward. I have had no success on this part of Edward's life and past.
I cannot find anything on Edward's children, Anna, Emma, and Amos (or Ami), except a burial record for Annie Kelly d/o E. and E. Kelly (might not be the same ones) and that she died at age 26. I also have no information concerning Edward's daughter Emma, or son Amos (Ami) past the 1870 census.
I currently have received the death records for Edward, William, and Anna.
I would LOVE to break down these brick walls concerning these people. Thanks in advance for any help given.
